The DMT Java Client is a self-standing software application that can be used to access the DMT Network and to maintain a portfolio of DMT assets. It contains the same Transfer-In, Pay, Claim, and Transfer-Out functions as does the DMT ALTA system. Using the DMT Java Client, payments may be made to other accounts created by either the DMT ALTA system or by others using the DMT Java Client. (Similarly, using the DMT ALTA system, payments may be made to other accounts created by either the DMT Java Client or by others using the DMT ALTA system.) To make a payment to an ALTA account using the Java Client, simply pay to the Claim Number of the ALTA account. The ALTA account holder can then collect the payment using the ALTA Claim function. Similarly, to make a payment to a Java Client account using the ALTA system, simply pay to the Claim Number of the Java Client account. The Java Client account holder can then collect the payment using his or her Java Client. DMT Java Client accounts and DMT ALTA accounts are stored identically in the distributed DMT database. The difference between the two concerns where the password hashes and account secret keys are stored (see DMT: a Simple Explanation). In the ALTA system the password hashes and secret keys are stored on the DMT server. For the Java Client the password hashes and secret keys are stored on the user's own computer. For this reason, accounts created by the DMT Java Client can be viewed only with the Java Client, while accounts created by the DMT ALTA system can be viewed only through the ALTA system. But the accounts are fully compatible, in the sense payments can be made from one environment to another. And accounts can be transferred completely from one environment to the other by paying the full balance of an account in one environment to the claim number of an account in the other environment.
